Yesterday I came across a study that said kiwis can drastically improve your sleep.
And of course, I’ll take any opportunity to consume something natural that improves my sleep quality.
The study found that eating two kiwis before bed improves sleep quality and duration. The findings showed:
- Total sleep time increased by 13.4%
- Subjective sleep quality improved by 42.4%
This may be due to the high serotonin content in kiwis, a hormone that regulates your sleep-wake cycle.
They also contain folate, which supports the conversion of serotonin into melatonin, your body’s primary sleep hormone.
Naturally, I had to try it myself.
So last night I ate two kiwis before bed.
This morning?
I genuinely felt more refreshed than usual, like I slept deeper. My watch even measured 8 hours and 30 minutes of sleep, which is 45 minutes longer than my average.
Now, of course, this could totally be a placebo and I’ve only tried it once.
But it looks promising enough that I’ve decided to stick with it for at least two weeks. I’ll report back.
Then this morning, I had another fruit I eat regularly, not for sleep, but because it supports long-term health.
My usual breakfast: Greek yogurt, mixed nuts, blueberries, cinnamon, and honey.
And the one ingredient I make sure to include (not just because it tastes amazing) is blueberries.
They’re one of the best foods you can eat for longevity.
Blueberries contain anthocyanins, the compounds that give them their deep blue color.
These antioxidants have been shown to defend cells, repair DNA damage, and support brain and blood vessel health.
If you’re curious, this study dives deeper into how anthocyanins contribute to cellular protection and healthy aging.
Other benefits include:
- Improved blood sugar regulation
- Better digestion and gut health
- Reduced inflammation throughout the body
- Support for eye health and vision
- Enhanced recovery after exercise
No wonder I never skip them at breakfast.
What about you? Are there any foods you eat regularly to support your longevity?
Hit reply, I’d love to hear what’s in your routine.
Anyway, have a great weekend!
